Obviously, Inara's my favorite.
Zoe's pretty dang cool as well. Tough as nails and cold as steel when she's angry or has her game face on, but has a good sense of humor and the best husband. Since her character is all about loyalty, it's interesting to see how she deals with the tensions of loyalty to husband vs. loyalty to captain.
Then there's Kaylee, sweet, earthy, and all about mechanics. How many shows let their girls be tinkerers? Love the episode with her and that ridiculous dress, and she's got all the guys at the ball charmed because she shares their interests.
I even enjoy River. I saw the movie before I saw the show, which made it all the weirder, knowing what she's capable of while everyone else just thinks she's crazy. Or, as Wash put it, "wacky fun."
Anyway, the reason I haven't bought a poster of them before is because they tend not to make the kind of posters for this show that I would enjoy. They have individuals on each of the characters, but it's a yellow-dominated theme that's a mix between a wanted poster and a carnival ad, with a bit of Chinese styling thrown in for luck. It was the yellow part that I didn't like.
There's a group poster for the movie as well, but River's death dance pose drives me nuts. I assume she must be between moves, because that's not a good spot to pause if she were in danger, but who knows with Hollywood? And the rest of the characters are sort of scattered in the distance, with lots of blank white space between them. Not my style.
The one complaint I have about it is that none of the characters are smiling. You don't expect smiles from Jayne, Zoe, or the two Tams, but Wash, Kaylee, and Inara should be smiling. Inara's would be subtle, of course, but it still should be present. I don't know whether I'd expect Mal to smile or scowl, so I reckon his expression his is probably just about right. The only one who is almost smiling is Kaylee, but I don't think her character could look any more serious and still be Kaylee.
Maybe they're doing an impression of those old-time cameras where a smile would spoil the frame.
I waver between Zoe being my favorite and Kaylee. Zoe is totally bad-ass and you have to admire that, but Kaylee is just so dang cute. :)
